Description
One major problem at the hospital is the inconsistent power supply from the national electric company in Zambia. The lights frequently go out during an operation. This situation was not safe for surgical patients. The I-TEC team installed a battery inverter system for back-up power for the operating room. Now, there is no disruption of the electricity in the operating room.

Description
The rest of the hospital is still without back-up power. Incubators keeping premature babies warm shut off. Patients on oxygen concentrators are suddenly discontinued from their supplemental oxygen. These situations are very dangerous. During these electrical outages, the lab and x-ray department also shut down. This is a major inconvenience to patients in the clinic who have travelled from long distances. They often wait several hours for the electricity to come back so that they can complete their testing before they can return home to the village. A diesel generator has been installed. The I-TEC team came to install the generator so that the hospital will have back-up power.
